The Different World of Women and Men’s Dress Shoes
The art of buying men’s dress shoes is not at all as complicated as buying them for women. At least, it isn’t that complicated for the most part. The industry keeps it that way because demand for men’s dress shoes simply isn’t as high. While a retailer shops around their distributors for the all the latest wholesale womens styles, men’s styles don’t offer as much variety. When most men think about buying a pair of leather dress shoes they simply imagine a simple black leather shoe loafer or lace ups and don’t think of much else. In turn the retailer tends to offer just that; a few fancy—but not too fancy—leather men’s dress shoes that are mostly dark in color and don’t offer much difference from one pair to the next. After recently shopping at an outlet store full of wholesale men’s and wholesale womens shoes it was shocking to see just how many shoes a woman has to chose from. Any style might be available in leather, suede or other material with a higher heel or a lower heel. The dress shoes for men, even in the vast store, was just a small section. Women’s dress shoes have to offer a variety because women’s styles change so dramatically and outfits worn day to day can be different in so many ways that only a couple pairs of dress shoes simply wouldn’t match all the outfits. For this reason women’s dress shoes have to me in a variety of colors, textures and materials let alone different grades of leather. When buying dress shoes woman have to think about their outfit, what it looks like, how fancy it is, how long it is, how tight it is, etc… Men’s dress shoes are a different business all together because there is so much less going on for the average men’s formal fashions. Though a more discerning male shopper will pay just as much attention as the women dress shoes shoppers, most men’s dress shoes are sold to guys that know nothing more then asking for black leather dress shoes. Even for those men who are more fashion conscious when it comes to buying dress shoes, there still isn’t anywhere near as much to think about as in women’s dress shoes. The pants color and the belt are probably the most important things to worry about. Assuming you’re a man who wears a typical leather belt—as opposed to something lavish and multicolored—try to match it to the dress shoes. Or vice versa. Fashion experts tell men that if the pants you’ll be wearing are jeans then you can buy almost any style of dress shoes you want. Just avoid shiny leather shoes that are so obviously intended for more formal attire. If you are going to be wearing dress pants then men’s leather dress shoes should be shiny and the same color or darker than the pants. The good thing for men here is that laying out a hundred bucks for men’s dress shoes once in a while isn’t such a big deal. That pair of dress shoes will last quite a while and likely get lots of wear. For women who want to keep their dress shoes current and fit for any occasion and outfit, wholesale womens dress shoes or stores offering similar pricing isn’t hard to find these days. Especially with the wonderful world of the internet. |
